This week we’re reliving school dances! We discuss Winter Formal dresses, our opinions on dress codes, the pressures of bringing a date, and other problematic themes.
Show Notes
As you can see, we record all our intros during the episode to preserve sounds quality
- Wow, we really do discuss degrassi a lot. Maybe we should be a Degrassi podcast?
- There are 385 Episodes of Degrassi: Next Generation, but there are even more for Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi: High, and Degrassi: Next Class
- Lord, If Drake ever hears this, I am so sorry for the mix up! Please don’t hold it against me!
- Ali Bandari, younger sister to Sav on Degrassi, a double dressing icon to all who endured uniforms or strict parents
- Fact Check #1: Technically the shirt Lane is wearing when she meets Dave Rygalski is a band tee. It’s a Dead Kennedys shirt, but she then takes it off to reveal another shirt that say Trust God
- Farrah is the girl Sav was arranged to go to prom with/betrothed to
- Did anyone ever used a bump-it hear? We’re so intrigued by the process
- Yes, quarantine has made a space for some extra reality television in my life, and I re-watched The Jersey Shore with no shame
- It’s official, we are going to have to run an instagram poll to see what you color you all think Rory Girlmore’s Winter Formal dress is
- Fact Check #2: Lorelai’s banana on toast did not feature honey
- I promise, I like butter, jam, Nutella, all the great toast things – but I’m on a restricted diet right now for health reasons
- Wow we actually got into the true content of our episode within the first 15 minutes!
- Fact Check #3: Jae’s class was 668 students, and mine was 88
- Filled out and shapely – weird ways to describe women!
- When we talk about the mattress-y top, we actually mean ruching
- Our sorority had 2 dances every year, and a date party event as well
- I know fashion has expanded, but I still dont think it has grown to include crop tops
- My rant is definitely selfish and more than a little skewed, because I wear business casual to work, which in my office is actually code for business formal.
- Jae is a heater, I’m a freezer
- We named the dragon under our floor Benedict Cumberbatch because he voiced Smaug, in the The Hobbit Trilogy
- Jae is at her grumpiest when overheated, but her fan has pink sparkles on it
- Haha we went off on a casual tangent there, but now we’re back
- Formal Attire to us means dresses are floor length or at least mid calf/skimming the top of your shoes. If you can wear it to vegas, or to a hollywood after party, it’s probably not formal
- Fact Check #4: Jae did leave her house within the last 10 days to pick up her Christmas tree
- Rebranding, Jae is no longer over dressed, she is just more prepared
- Uniform supply stores, do actually have great cardigans if you want to check them out!
- Proportions in mainstream clothes are the worst! RIP our tailoring projects, we’ll get to them 2021 hopefully. Or we’ll learn how to sew. It’s a toss up at this point
- We do not like the idea that dances need dates! Normalize just going with your friends if you want.
- I know my idea of dates and dances, and dates and invitations in general, might seem a little unorthodox, but luckily I’ve found people in my life that feel similarly or understand my preferences
- Some people truly love the idea of always having a date for events and that is totally ok too! We just aren’t fans of the overarching societal pressures
